ARISE's first graduation was a tremendous success-- and an emotional experience for everyone.

When she opened the letter from Mills College, ARISE senior Ana Cristina couldn’t quite believe what she read. “I didn’t know if I’d really been accepted,” she remembers. “I really never thought I’d be in that place. I saw myself going to college, but I didn’t know how I was going to get there.”

ARISE High School is looking for volunteers to become mentors for their 2011 Senior Class.

Golden State Warrior NBA Star CJ Watson discovered ARISE online and started a "Tickets for Grades" program this year, honoring the four students with the top GPAs in each grade by bringing them by limo to a Warriors game. CJ Watson visits ARISEEach student was able to bring one guest and also recieved a Warrior's bag and other gifts. In March, ARISE was also honored by a visit from Watson, who was impressed by the sense of community and opportunities in evidence at the school.

We will be celebrating our first senior class and their many college acceptances as well as launching our Send a Student to College Program. ARISE is quickly approaching its first graduation on June 18th, but there are a lot of events taking place between now and then. The majority of our 21 seniors have already received acceptances from colleges that include the California State Universities at Fresno, Northridge, East Bay, and San Francisco, as well as Dominican University and Mills College. Students and staff alike are eagerly awaiting news from many, many more schools.

Join us for one or more of three upcoming events:

We are looking for  volunteers to serve as panelists for our junior
and senior "proficiency" presentations next week, Wednesday through
Friday, December 9-11th. Come for an hour and help evaluate our
students' presentations on their literary analysis, mathematical
thinking, scientific inquiry, and/or historical research and
understanding. Presentations are on the hour every hour from 9-3
except for 12. Please email kate@arisehighschool.org if you are interested in helping
out!
