Willi Sanchez
It has taken me a while to "find myself" and my career. After graduating from Berkeley High School I attended the University of San Francisco on a soccer scholarship for a year. Due to personal and financial circumstances beyond my control, I took a break from college for a year and a half. After deciding that it was time for me to return to college to finish my academic education, I attended Chabot College in Hayward, playing softball and soccer, where I received my AA after a year and a half. From there, I transferred to Sonoma State University to play soccer. After one year of playing I decided that I needed to focus on my academics and get serious about my career choice. I stopped playing soccer and graduated with my BA in English two years later. Through the encouragement of one of my professors, I applied and was accepted to the MUSE (Multicultural Urban Secondary English) Progam at UC Berkeley. I received my MA in Education after two years. After one year of the program I began working for McClymonds High School in West Oakland where I taught ELD , one freshman English class and coached volleyball and softball. During my first year, I was lucky enough to be asked to join the design team for EXCEL High School; one of the two small schools splitting off from McClymonds. I stayed with EXCEL High School for two years where I taught tenth and eleventh grade English, AP English Literature and Composition, English Strategies, CAHSEE Prep, SAT Prep, Introduction to Computers, and AVID Advisory.
My interests are in sports (both playing and watching), writing (mostly poetry, reading (mostly murder mysteries), playing with my two cats, exercising as much as possible, and keeping tabs on my adopted "kids" from EXCEL. Below are some pictures. Enjoy!
